One last kiss goodbye.
It's been a tumultuous and emotional few months in cat lady land. Sixteen foster kittens have passed through these doors since January. The permanent collection has been extremely tolerant of the nuttiness in this house. Since April, I've buried five kittens which breaks the heart to pieces every single time. However, eight of these fosters thrived and found new homes so HOORAY for those wins.
Like a good momma, I drug my kits with catnip before I abandon them for 8 weeks.
Despite my weekly cleaning and mopping, my kitchen and bathroom floors have had a constant patina of kitten crust (milk, wet meatz, poop, and pee). I was so excited to hand my keys over to the cat sitter and jump in my car for 8 weeks to make music across the country. Ironically, my brand new comedy album Hairball: Songs from the Depths hasn't had a proper release because my heart has been so heavy after the loss of my last kitten Lil' Sebastian. It is available on Bandcamp and on my website, and I'll start marketing it more once my spirits are lifted in a few days.
LOST BOY (Augusta GA)
My tour kicked off last night in Pittsburgh PA at a DIY venue called Sharkweek. I was pleasantly surprised with the turnout of strangely well-trained college kids that would follow the bands from stage to stage and listen attentively. The line up was a little more hardcore than I typically play with, but in a way, that's totally welcome. I had to play on a mound of dirt outside because the PA speakers blew out. ROCK AND ROLL. There's going to be eight more weeks of acoustic brouhaha, so shaking up the eardrums now with chest thumping bass is a good thing. Just remember your earplugs.
PINEGROVE (Montclair NJ)
The next show isn't until Seattle on 6/27, so we are doing the west coast hustle from Chicago to Seattle in four days. I've learned over the years that trying to play shows in states like North Dakota and Montana is not financially viable for a musician like myself. It is however, a beautiful and breath taking drive. I have projects to stay busy in the car. There's a musical that needs music (funny that). There's catnip toys that need sewing. I know Portland will buy all the penips (penis shaped cat toys) in my merch case, so I must PREPARE. I am very excited to get through the corn fields and rock out with the fine folks I can only see once a year! BUT FIRST THE MIDWEST...
He delivers.
